Note: All courses must be booked at least two weeks in advance, (the sooner the better)
and there is limited space on each course.

Important Announcement

For staffing reasons we are closing early in 2011 – at the end of September.
Confirmed bookings for later courses will be honoured,
but the office will be unmanned after that date, and new bookings will be difficult to arrange.

Come and try sailing

Designed for young people and adults as an introduction to sailing on the Broads. 
No experience necessary, all equipment provided. Family sessions can be arranged.

Every Saturday morning, 10.00 am to 1 pm, from Easter until October half-term
and by arrangement on Wednesday afternoons during the school holidays.

£20 per child, £25 per adult for one session.
(You can also use Nestlι or O2 vouchers)

 

The RYA Youth Sailors Scheme (for ages 8–16)
provides an introduction to sailing in easy stages. 

Courses have been arranged for the following dates:

Stage 1:
25-26th July 2011 *
6-7th August 2011
8-9th August 2011*
15-16th August 2011*
20-21st August 2011

Stage 2:
27-28th July 2011*
11-12th August 2011*
18-19th August 2011*
20-21st August 2011

* Priority will be given to those booking the 5-day courses below.

Stage 1 & 2 combined (5-day course)
25-28th July 2011
8-12th August 2011
15-19th August 2011

Stage 3, Stage 4:
No dates set as yet, but we will probably schedule something in the summer school holidays.

The RYA National Sailing Scheme for adults (16 years+)
has been developed to enable participants to get the most from the sport.

For adults, we schedule only weekend courses (non-residential) although weekday dates can be arranged if wanted.
One weekend will advance you one Level.

Level 1
No dates set as yet but there may well be one before the course below.

Level 2:
12-13th August 2011

Note some experience is advisable between Level 1 & 2 and significant experience is required before passing Level 3, although the tuition and assessment may be on separate days.

Level 3 and advanced courses

We schedule these only in response to demand. Ring and enquire.

Note: All RYA Certificates are awarded for achievement and not merely for attending the course!

Tented accommodation may be available for families and organised youth groups only during August. Ring the Centre (01692 536 411) for availability and prices.



Other Courses

The RYA National Powerboat Scheme courses are for those who use small, open powerboats for leisure or work, whether for their own sake or in connection with another activity such as sailing or rescue. There are three levels –

Powerboat 1 – basic skills; how to handle a displacement powerboat on smooth waters. Cost: £181

Powerboat 2 – more advanced training in faster boats for those with some experience (this course may be given away from the Centre), cost £182; and

Safety Boat – for those who provide safety support for clubs etc. £141. NB Powerboat 2 is a pre-requisite.

Note Powerboat 2 is obligatory for those wishing to train as Dinghy Instructors, as is Safety Boat for those wanting to go on to be Senior Sailing Instructors.

The RYA First Aid Course is for those who go out in small boats (obligatory for Instructors). Ring 01692 536 411. We run these course also in the winter months.

BTAC Assistant Dinghy Instructor – a centre-specific course for those who want to assist in delivering sailing courses at BTAC, typically as part of a school or youth group, but it is also the first step to vocational qualifications. Arranged only fro organised groups who intend to use the Centre.

RYA Dinghy Instructor courses, run by an RYA Coach and moderated by an external RYA Examiner can be organised if there is sufficient demand. Note: candidates for the course should be experienced sailors, must hold the RYA Powerboat 2 certificate, and must pass an assessment of their sailing skills before the course starts.
