Sailing Courses for Adults

The RYA National Sailing Scheme for adults (16 years+)
has been developed to enable participants to get the most from the sport.
Level 1, Start Sailing, introduces the basic skills.
Level 2 builds on these skills and introduces the essential elements of good sailing.
Level 3 (Better Sailing) takes you further and turn you into a fully-fledged dinghy sailor.

For adults, we offer only weekend courses (non-residential)
although individual or group tuition can be arranged at other times (subject to a minimum charge of £110 a 3-hour session).
One weekend will advance you one Level, however we recommend that you get extra practice before moving from one Level to the next. This can be done through our supervised practice sessions (q.v.) if desired.

We will take up to six pupils on each course, but normally require a minimum of three people for a course to run.  Each course is run by a fully RYA-qualified Instructor, with a safety boat in attendance.

Depending on the numbers, age, size, competence and confidence of the pupils, the courses will use any or all of:

a) Toppers – probably the best beginner singlehander dinghy for the lighter adult

b) Topaz dinghies (a singlehander dinghy especially suited for teaching)

c) Wayfarers – large dinghies that can take up to two adults with an Instructor on board as well,
or three adults with the Instructor in a powerboat coaching..
(Wayfarers are also used frequently for the first sessions of a Level 1 course)

Dates – see this year’s Programme

All courses are arranged in response to demand and appear on the programme only when they have been arranged.
