Friend’s of BTAC

Have you thought about joining a friends group?

Here is your chance to join Friend’s of BTAC.

BTAC site and fen is a relatively small area, but it does not diminish its importance as a protected habitat or valuable education resource. Unfortunately, there are just as many jobs here for the small team as there are on a larger SSSI site. Volunteers on our fen weekends can get involved with marsh management, scrub clearance and widening the peat pond, boardwalk and bridge renewal, repair of the bird hide or site and path maintenance depending upon the weather and team leaders available.  We hope our Fen volunteers benefit by working together, sharing practical conservation skill and techniques and having the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of flora and fauna including birds, butterflies, dragonflies and plants.

Sailing safety ratios are high, making sailing for a class expensive for schools.  Volunteers interested in passing on sailing knowledge and ensuring that children have opportunities to try the sport are invaluable to enabling large groups to get on the water. We hope our sailing volunteers benefit by working together, sharing practical sailing skills and techniques and having the opportunity to enhance their own skills.

We hope all our volunteers feel appreciated, knowing they are supporting an education centre and SSSI.  Volunteers may spend between 4 and 8 days a year on site, sometimes as individual days or small blocks.  Generally we offer accommodation and meals, and in some circumstances travel expenses as well.

Joining our mailing list ensures you get invites to Open days, volunteer days and our newsletter.
